My First Stitch Fix Box!

Let me just preface this entire post by saying that I am definitely a bargain hunter when it comes to clothes--some of my favorite items are from garage sales/Goodwill/Walmart/Secondhand stores!   You will probably rarely see me post anything above $40 unless I love it a lot and it's really good!

Happy Wednesday, friends!   It's been entirely too long since my last post--life has been super busy, and I'm trying to revamp my blog/website.    I've seen lots of people that have tried Stitch Fix, but didn't try it myself until I got a referral code from my sister-in-law.    I figured I'd give it a shot, because it was a free box, and if I didn't like anything, I wasn't out any money.

Stitch Fix lets you schedule automatic deliveries, or on demand deliveries (I chose this option for my first box).    Basically, it's a $20 styling fee for each box, and if you choose to purchase an item, your styling fee will go towards that purchase.   When you create an account, you'll fill out a style profile, which asks all of your sizes, how you want items to fit, what colors and patterns you like, what you'd like to receive in your box, etc.    After you get your box and review what's inside, you'll decide if you want to keep or return any of the items.   You can rate how you felt about each item, the price, if you want some different items in your next box, or you can add notes to your stylist also.

When I took my style quiz, I specified that I was looking for some new pieces for work.   You may know that I recently had my third baby back in February, and since she was born, I am actually below my pre-pregnancy weight (yay!), so all of my pants/jeans are a little too big now.  I work in an office, so most of my wardrobe needs to be professional attire instead of casual jeans and t-shirts (although we are allowed to wear jeans on Fridays).   You can also link your Instagram account and any of your Pinterest style boards, so they can see what your style is, which is really neat!  Let me show you what I got!

I loved this dress when I pulled it out of the box!   I love the color and the style (navy blue is one of my faves!)  However, when I tried it on, I didn't think it was flattering on my midsection.  It was comfortable and I liked the fabric a lot--I would maybe have considered it if it was more flattering on me, even though it was above my "price range" 😀

I thought this top and pants were super cute, but I couldn't get past the price point.  Both were navy and would have been perfect for work, but were a little out of my price range, unfortunately.

I loved the style of this sweater (I love a good cardigan!)!    I debated back and forth a long time before ultimately deciding to send it back.   It was more of an orange-y color than it looks like in this picture, so I wasn't sure what it would pair with the best.   I'd love to check out a different color if I order another box sometime!

This necklace was pretty, but it wasn't really quite my style.  It was pretty light to wear and would have gone with a lot of clothing items I have at home, but I wasn't drawn to it enough to keep it.

Overall, I thought it was a good first experience with Stitch Fix, even though I ended up returning everything I got.   I feel like I know what to request next time and to request a couple of lower price points.   I'm looking forward to trying a box again sometime!

If you're interested in trying Stitch Fix at all, check out this link and get $25 towards your first box!  *You'll also help me get $25 towards my next box!

Let me know your experiences with Stitch Fix!!

Chicken & Roasted Vegetable Bowls

Hey friends, long time, no talk!!    Oh goodness, I hit a blogging rut and may be finally starting to get out--I've got lots of post ideas floating around in my head!

Today, I wanted to share my meal prep ideas for my work lunches this week.   I'm totally guilty of just grabbing lunch at a fast food restaurant while I'm out and about during the work day.   After I had Elaina, my nursing/pumping helped me lose almost 35 pounds, and I'd like to maintain that weight or keep it off!    I figured it would be beneficial for my health and well-being, as well as my wallet, if I started preparing my lunch on the weekend and take it during the week.

I kept seeing ideas on Pinterest for sheet pan dinners and kind of put my own spin on it!   I decided to pick a meat and add various roasted vegetables and make bowls out of them.   I did broccoli (my favorite!), shredded carrots, squash, zucchini, and green peppers, and also grilled chicken strips for my bowls this week.

I cheated a little and got the bag of already prepared chicken strips from the store and just heated them up on the stove.   I sauteed the carrots on the stove also since they were a lot smaller than the other vegetables.   Last week I did not use green peppers, did smoked sausage instead of grilled chicken, and used brown rice in the bottom.   I used this seasoning from the grocery store, and just picked a flavor that sounded good!   It smells so good and is delicious!!    I just tossed the veggies with some oil and sprinkled the seasoning on, and then spread it out on a baking sheet.   My oven was at 400 degrees, and I left them in for about 20 minutes--you can adjust the time depending on how crunchy or soft you like your vegetables to be!

I hope these tasted as good as they look!   I'll eat my first one for lunch tomorrow!   I usually pack some pretzels or crackers or something to go with it.   Next week I may try a different variation, with different veggies or meat or adding noodles or some sort of sauce!   Or I may try to find a whole new idea instead!

What are your favorite things to take to work for lunch?   Do you mix it up everyday or take the same thing multiple days in a row?   Let me know some of your ideas!!

Living and Dining Room Inspiration

Happy Monday, friends!    I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!     Lots of exciting things going on around our house this spring--we've decided to turn our family room into a playroom for the kids, and make our living room "nice!" ☺  Our living room was always full of toys, so when you came in the front door (we don't have a specific entryway or foyer), it was just a toy explosion everywhere and always looked a mess when visitors came.   That being said, I'm taking the nice living room idea and running with it!    I have big plans for rearranging current furniture, adding a couple of new pieces, adding some wall decor, and refinishing our current tables.

I can't decide what I'd like to do with our end tables.   The stand our tv sits on is black, so I'm torn if I want to paint it solid black, or do something similar to these--staining or two-toned paint?   Any thoughts on this?   I'm not sure how to tie it together right now!   Our living and dining room are all just one big open space, and the dining table we currently have is the same color as the end tables, so I'm planning to refinish that also!

I mentioned before that we don't have a dedicated entryway/foyer, so I'm planning to rearrange the furniture to kind of create one, and I'd like to add a console table against the wall inside of the door and also use some fun baskets underneath for storage.   Do you all follow Shanty2Chic on Instagram or their blog?   I came across this DIY console table on Pinterest and figured I could follow their directions and make my own console table!   How cute is this?!?

My last big thing to work on now is picking out new dining chairs!   Our current chairs are like a woven/rattan style chair, but they need re-caned very, very badly, so I think I'm just going to pick a new style and order them.    Here are some of my favorites!   I definitely am leaning towards more of the farmhouse style chairs (even though we don't live on a farm haha).   What do you think of these? (Affiliate links)  Let me know which are your favorites!

I hope you all have a fantastic week!   Have you ever built any furniture for your house?   Feel free to share your projects with me!

Elaina's Baptism--A Mint & Pink Spring Luncheon

Happy Hump Day, friends!    It's been quite awhile since I last posted *eeeek!*

I thought today I would share some pictures of Elaina's Baptism Party, which was this past Sunday.  The Baptisms at our church are typically done after the last Mass on Sunday mornings, so we did an early afternoon lunch of soups and salad.   We chose to make French Onion soup, chili, and the Olive Garden Zuppa Toscana soup, with an Olive Garden-esque salad, fruit, bread, and cake.

I knew that I wanted to keep the decorations simple, but classy.   Ever since E was first born, my mom has always said that she looks so nice in a mint green color, so I knew I wanted to incorporate that into the decor somehow.   I chose mint and pink to be the primary colors for the tablescape and also included a salmon color in some of the decorations.   Since we are getting close to springtime, fresh flowers from our local Kroger were used in the centerpieces--I just walked into the floral department on Friday and picked flowers that fit the color scheme.   I think they turned out so pretty!

Here are some photos from the party!    I'll link whatever products I can at the bottom!

Baptism Invitation--Pretty Little Invite (Etsy)
The light pink napkins are from the Walmart Party section
Mason jars and doilies are from Walmart
Burlap Fabric is from Joann Fabrics

I found the banner on Pinterest, which took me to the Soho Sonnet Blog, so I printed it out and strung twine through it.

I found the paper fans from Just Artifacts and used the Eyelet Tissue Fans in the colors Tickled Pink, Salmon, Mint, and Ivory.   They shipped very fast and the fans (and everything else on their website) were extremely affordable!   I would definitely order again from them for party decor!

I hope you all have an excellent week!   Thanks for stopping by!!

Loving Lately

Happy Sunday night, friends!   Just hanging out on the couch today, wishing it would warm up a little outside!   It's been crazy cold here this past week, and this coming week it's supposed to be up in the 40s and even close to 50 one day!   What is happening, Mother Nature?!?

I thought I'd share some of my recent purchases, some items currently in my cart(s), and some items on my winter wish list!   I'm all about the cozy & comfy clothes this year, and I'm loving a lot of the trends I've seen on different blogs and on Instagram, especially the mule shoes and ruffled sleeve tops and dresses!

One of my recent purchases was this satchel/shoulder bag on Amazon!   I absolutely love the color and it's just the right size for me!  (And you can't beat the price!!)

I was looking for a 2018 planner about a month ago, and saw this one go on sale on Amazon!   I just love the design on the front and it's got perfect calendar space for me at this time.   I've always wanted an Erin Condren planner, so I figured this would be a great first one!

I also bought this super cute vest right before Thanksgiving!   I love the pockets in it!   I wore a long sleeved black tee underneath, but it would be cute with white or gray, or even a button-down shirt.

Here's what's in my shopping cart and on my wish list!

These Carlos Santana Ballet Flats--love the color!

Ankle Strap Ballet Flats--This color is only $13, but it comes in lots of different colors!

This tunic top, comes in quite a few colors and I love the button detail on the side!

A super comfy looking sweatshirt--great for weekend lounging!

This very cute cardigan, good for layering!

Another tunic top--love the lace detail along the bottom!

Ruffle Sleeved Sweater Dress from Nordstrom--I'd totally wear this to work!

These gold mules--they could be dressed up or down, and look so comfortable!

What trends are you all loving this winter season??   Let me know!   I'd love to try out different styles!

Hope you all have a wonderful week and don't get too cold!

2018 Blog & Instagram Goals

Happy New Year, Friends!     I hope you all had a wonderful time ringing in 2018, whether you went out on the town, stayed home with family or friends, or even hit the hay at 8 pm!   My husband worked New Year's Eve, so we just stayed home and had some snacks, and the kids were in bed by 10:00.   Sometime when they're bigger, I think it would be fun to have a party with some of our family!

Since it is the new year, I figured my first post would be about my goals for the year, with the blog and with posting on Instagram.  I'm not sure how attainable all of these are, but I'm going to give it a shot, and hopefully will make some progress with what I'm trying to accomplish!

This year I'd like to......

Learn how to take better pictures with my current camera!  A DSLR camera isn't in my budget right now, so I'd like to use my point and shoot to take pictures.  I'd also love to take better iPhone photos and learn how to edit them also.

Engage with more people I follow on Instagram!  I usually hit the "like" button on posts I like, but I never take the time to ask questions or leave a comment for the people I follow.  I'd like to interact more with other bloggers, shops, and brands!

Collaborate with another blogger or a brand!    This one might be a stretch, but I'm gonna try!   I think it would be so fun to make friends with another blogger and work with them on something, or even help promote something for a brand I love!

Set up an email list!    I don't send a lot of stuff out, but it could be fun to do a newsletter or something??

Look into possibly migrating to Wordpress!   I love Blogger and it's easy to use, but would it be better to have my own domain and be able to customize more things?

What blog topics are you interested in reading more about?   Do you have any tips or advice that you could share about what I'd like to accomplish?    Let me know in the comments!

Thanks for visiting my blog throughout this year!   I had fun starting this blog in late 2016/early 2017, but I'm looking forward to what 2018 will bring!     Cheers to the new year!!

Today, I wanted to share some of my favorite picks for dresses for New Year's Eve festivities--we actually don't have any plans this year (which I'm secretly excited about), but my husband also works until 8, so it would be late going anywhere anyways.  I'm looking forward to a low-key evening with the kids, with some snacks and some New Year's Rockin' Eve!   I've selected a some dresses that would be perfect for a fun party, or going out on the town!   You can dress these up with fun jewelry or shoes also!
